I am registered and paid for my first autocross! Time to finally use my Miata for what it was made for. Philadelphia Regional Solo will be a 2-day (Sat-Sun) Event so I am excited for that. Signed up for the Novice class because I have no idea what I am doing. Hopefully I don’t become too addicted because my wallet is not infinite.
Location: Warminster Community Park, Warminster, PA

You will become addicted, but autocross is cheap as far as motorsport goes. Apart from the driver, the biggest change you can make for your times are good tires.

I haven't autocrossed in a long time but if you want someone with a little experience to come with, I'm down. I live across the river in Jersey.

What @SidwaysOnDirt said.
If you do decide to keep doing it, which you will, stick to a street class to start. If you’re already modified beyond a street class, consider replacing parts to drop back into one. Better to learn the car as it is from the factory, and street class is much more forgiving on your wallet.

Yup, my lack of skill and tires will certainly be the weakest links. Tires are so-so all seasons with like 50% tread and I have snow tires for the winter, so I plan on eventually getting some nice summers to use. I don’t really want to have 3 sets of wheels so I gotta find tires that are a good balance between treadwear and performance. They don’t have to handle cold at all though!

Yeah, definitely staying in E-street since I didn’t plan on modifying my Miata any time soon. I am not looking to be competitive in any way, I just want to have fun.

I would certainly be down for that! Seems to be a pretty big event and its under 90 minutes from home so its the closest one I have found yet.

Then you’ll have a great time.
Although your sentiment of “not looking to be competitive in any way” might change. lol Then again I’m a super competitive person, so I love testing myself against other people. I’m always just trying to beat myself first though.

Yup, I realize I might be lying to myself with that statement haha.

Enjoy! Put some extra air in your tires and have fun.
Your first goal for your first autocross should be to find the course. Really, that’s enough. You can’t go fast until you know exactly where you’re supposed to be going. Then, work on improving your time and your driving a little bit each time. Eventually, you will be faster than someone, anyone, and there will be much rejoicing (yaaaaaay).

Yeah, I was looking at the listing of cars signed up for the event to see who I could be competing against. There are focus and fiesta (non st), an accord (v6 so it would smoke me in a straight line lol), and a regular Neon. Plus a good 5 or 6 other Miatas for good fun. I think if I end up feeling competitive, my goal will be to be faster than one other person!

Not being last is always a good goal!
